Iranians Buying Food on Installments

Iranians Buying Food on Installments
Last updated: 5/22/2026 7:14:00 PM

Amid soaring inflation, ordinary people in Iran are now buying essential food items on installment plans. Many families are struggling to afford daily necessities such as rice, lentils, and cooking oil without paying in parts.

Point-to-point inflation in the country has exceeded 73 percent. Prices of food and household goods have surged sharply over the past year, with some essential products becoming more than twice as expensive.

Tehran-based media outlet Eghtesad News reported that the installment sale of basic commodities clearly reflects how inflation is putting severe pressure on household budgets.

The inflation crisis is also changing consumer behavior. As many people lose the ability to buy new products, demand for second-hand goods is rising across the country. Used refrigerators, furniture, and electronic products are becoming increasingly popular in Iran.
