The death toll from devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal has risen to 1,127, while more than 4,500 people remain missing. Rescue operations are still underway in the affected areas.
More than 10,000 personnel from the Nepal Army and police are involved in the rescue efforts. Rescue teams from India, China and several other countries have also joined the operations. Relief efforts are being carried out alongside the rescue work.
Nepal’s Disaster Management Department said at least 300 buildings have been completely destroyed in the disaster-hit areas, while many other structures have been damaged. Roads and communication infrastructure across vast areas have also been destroyed.
Authorities said it could take at least three months to rebuild the damaged infrastructure and restore normal life in the affected areas.
