**Productive Talks Held, U.S. Investors to Visit Bangladesh Soon** American businesses have expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh, and a delegation of U.S. investors is expected to visit the country next week, according to Sergio Gor, the United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asia. Speaking after a meeting with Prime Minister Tarek Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday (August 1), Gor described the discussions as highly productive. He said the visiting investors will explore opportunities in several promising sectors and assess potential areas for investment in Bangladesh. The meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States, as well as expanding economic cooperation between the two countries. In a post on X following the meeting, Sergio Gor said he had discussed various opportunities to further enhance economic partnership between the two nations. He added that meaningful and positive outcomes could be achieved through joint initiatives and closer collaboration. Prior to the meeting, Gor visited the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, where he reviewed the humanitarian situation, ongoing assistance programs, and overall conditions in the camps. As part of his visit, he also held discussions with government officials, representatives of international organizations, and individuals involved in humanitarian operations. It is worth noting that the U.S. special envoy arrived in Dhaka on July 30 for a three-day official visit. His trip is being viewed as part of the ongoing diplomatic and economic engagement between Bangladesh and the United States.

# ‘Ghajini’ Fame Actor Pradeep Rawat Passes Away at 74 Veteran Indian actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for portraying the menacing villain in *Ghajini*, has passed away after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 74. The news of his death was confirmed by his manager, Siddharth Tiwari, who told Indian media that Rawat had been undergoing treatment in hospital for more than a month after his cancer returned. Despite extensive medical efforts, he could not be saved. Several members of India's film industry have expressed their condolences following the actor's death. Born on January 21, 1952, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Pradeep Rawat began his acting career on television. He first gained recognition for portraying Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra's iconic television series *Mahabharat* before making a successful transition to films. Rawat made his film debut with *Aitbaar* in 1985. During the 1990s, he appeared in several notable Hindi films, including *Agneepath*, *Koyla*, *Sarfarosh*, and *Major Saab*. He rose to wider prominence with his role as Deva Singh Sodhi in the Oscar-nominated film *Lagaan* (2001). However, it was his portrayal of the ruthless antagonist in the Tamil blockbuster *Ghajini* (2005), starring Suriya, and its Hindi remake *Ghajini* (2008), starring Aamir Khan, that made him a household name across India and beyond. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Rawat appeared in over 100 films and television productions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Nepali and several other languages. His commanding screen presence, deep voice and memorable villainous performances earned him a lasting place in Indian cinema. He was last seen in the Bollywood film *Chhaava*, released in 2025. For his performances, Rawat received the Filmfare Award (Telugu) for Best Villain and the prestigious Nandi Award in 2004.

**No Legal Barrier to Publishing BCS Non-Cadre Merit List: High Court** The High Court has ruled that the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) faces no legal obstacle in publishing merit lists for recommendations to non-cadre posts under the BCS examination. The court said publishing the merit list is a mandatory requirement under the relevant regulations. The full text of the verdict was released on Sunday. The case was filed by several hundred candidates who had passed both the written and viva examinations of the 43rd BCS and challenged certain steps taken by the PSC in the non-cadre recruitment process. Following hearings, a High Court bench comprising Justice Shashanka Shekhar Sarkar and Justice Urmi Rahman delivered the verdict on June 25. During the proceedings, the PSC argued that recommendations from a previous BCS examination could not continue once the results of a subsequent BCS were published. However, the court rejected that position. The ruling stated that the recommendation process can continue under the 2023 regulations and directed the PSC to publish the complete merit list within 60 days. The court also instructed the authorities to begin the recommendation process promptly after publication of the merit list, taking into account vacancies in government offices as well as candidates’ preferences and merit rankings.
