Two luxury apartments in London believed to be linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei have been put up for sale. The properties are located on Palace Green in Kensington, on the same street as the Israeli Embassy, according to The Sunday Times.
The apartments, located on the sixth and seventh floors of a building at 3a Palace Green, were purchased through intermediaries in 2014 and 2016. Their ownership is not publicly confirmed, but they have been linked to Khamenei through Iranian banker Ali Ansari, who has been accused of acting as a frontman for him.
The sale process reportedly began after Ansari was sanctioned and subsequently defaulted on the mortgages. The UK government then allowed the properties to be sold, with any remaining proceeds expected to remain frozen while he is under sanctions.
One of the apartments, bought for £19 million in 2016, is now being marketed for just under £12 million. The other was purchased for £16.75 million in 2014, but no public asking price has been listed. Both properties feature staff accommodation and private roof terraces.
