Influencer Sumaiya Arrested Over Alleged Pornographic Content

Instagram influencer Sumaiya Sayeed has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Cyber and Special Crime Division over allegations of creating, promoting and selling pornographic content on social media. Her alleged key associate, Khaja Saklain Faruk, was also arrested.

According to the Detective Branch, officers detected explicit content and advertisements for its sale on Sumaiya’s Instagram and Telegram accounts during cyber monitoring. Investigators later traced her location and arrested her during a raid at a flat in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area. Two smartphones were seized during the operation.

Police said the group allegedly sold the content through mobile financial services in exchange for specified fees. During preliminary questioning, investigators reportedly found evidence that Sumaiya operated the network with several associates.

Her father, Abu Sayeed, was also named as an accused in the case. Police allege that he was aware of his daughter’s activities and accepted money earned from them.

A case has been filed under Bangladesh’s Pornography Control Act, 2012, and police have sought a three-day remand for the arrested suspects.
