Bangladesh has called for stronger cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to expand regular migration pathways, protect migrant workers' rights, and promote safe, orderly, and regular migration.
The call was made during a meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed and IOM Deputy Director General Ugochi Daniels in Dhaka on Monday.
Shama Obaed urged greater IOM support in expanding legal migration opportunities, preventing irregular migration, ensuring ethical recruitment, and developing a skilled workforce to meet global labor market demands. She also praised the organization's humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and its support in repatriating stranded Bangladeshi nationals.
Daniels commended Bangladesh's leadership in global migration governance and reaffirmed IOM's commitment to strengthening cooperation on migration and humanitarian priorities.
