The Bangladesh government has announced an emergency grant of $1 million (approximately Tk 12.3 crore) to support people affected by devastating landslides and flash floods in northern Nepal.
The decision was taken in view of the long-standing friendly relations between Dhaka and Kathmandu. Under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the funds will be provided from a special allocation of the Foreign Ministry for the current fiscal year. The grant is currently awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Finance, according to reports.
The devastating disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border has killed more than 1,100 people. According to information released by the relevant Nepali authorities on Wednesday (September 2), 1,114 bodies have so far been recovered in Nepal following the flash floods.
Another 3,916 people remain missing in the country. Meanwhile, at least 16 deaths have been reported on the Chinese side, with 546 people still missing, including 261 foreign nationals.
