Rio de Janeiro, July 6: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that any country aligning with BRICS' "anti-American policies" will face an additional 10% tariff.
The BRICS summit has begun in Brazil. Brazilian President Lula described the group as a successor to the Non-Aligned Movement of the Cold War era.
Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend in person and was represented by his premier. Russian President Vladimir Putin joined the summit online. The meeting condemned attacks on Iran and Gaza.
The BRICS alliance is gaining importance in global economics and diplomacy and is calling for reforms in international institutions. Discussions also included climate change and regulation of artificial intelligence.
In contrast to Trump’s America First policy, BRICS countries are standing up for a multilateral world order.
