Two Brothers Accused of Killing Mother and Four Siblings over Inheritance Dispute

Two brothers have been arrested in Tehran, Iran, over allegations that they killed five members of their own family amid an inheritance and financial dispute. The victims included their mother, two sisters and two brothers.

Gulf News reported the case on Friday (September 18).

Police launched an investigation after the family members were reported missing. During the investigation, authorities recovered the bodies of five people from a deep well in the Simon Bolivar area of northwestern Tehran. Reports have placed the depth of the well at between around 20 and 26 metres.

Investigators reportedly began focusing on the two brothers after their statements raised suspicion. The brothers had approached police over an alleged theft of the family’s valuable jewellery. Iranian media reports said inconsistencies in their accounts and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of other family members prompted further questioning.

During interrogation, reports said the two brothers confessed to involvement in the killings. Investigators said the bodies had been placed in sacks and concealed inside the well.

Authorities are initially examining financial disputes and the prospect of gaining inheritance from family property as possible motives for the killings.

According to reports linked to Iran’s judiciary, one of the suspects admitted to killing his mother, two brothers and two sisters. However, the full circumstances of the incident, the role of each suspect and the fate of the family’s assets remain under investigation. The head of Tehran Province’s judiciary has ordered a detailed investigation into the case.
