White House Access Ban: CNN, MS NOW and Politico to Sue Trump Administration

CNN, MS NOW and Politico are preparing to sue the Trump administration over its decision to revoke their access to the White House. The three media organizations announced Monday (September 21) that they would seek to restore journalists’ access.

The lawsuit will be filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. A hearing on an emergency motion could take place this week. The outlets said their press credentials were revoked without notice or due process.

The three media organizations alleged that the decision was made because of objections to their reporting. They argued that the government has no authority to decide what news media outlets publish and that the restrictions violate press freedom protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Trump announced the ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico on Friday. On Saturday, journalists from the three outlets were denied entry to the White House, and some press badges were confiscated.

Under the restrictions, journalists from the three organizations have also lost access to their designated workspaces inside the White House and to certain equipment. The Trump administration did not immediately comment on the lawsuit.
