Claim of Mojtaba Khamenei Attending Father’s Funeral Raises New Questions

Claim of Mojtaba Khamenei Attending Father’s Funeral Raises New Questions
Last updated: 10/2/2026 8:08:00 PM

Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was present at his father’s funeral, his mother-in-law Tayebeh Mahrouzadeh has claimed.

Speaking recently to regional outlet Akhbar Mashhad, Mahrouzadeh said she personally saw Mojtaba at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad during the funeral. She also claimed that she met him that night and that he appeared healthy and in good condition.

However, Mojtaba was not seen in the state-broadcast footage of the funeral. His absence had previously fueled speculation about his health. Iranian authorities had said at the time that he did not attend the funeral because of health and security concerns.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also recently dismissed reports of serious health problems involving Mojtaba, saying he was healthy and capable of carrying out his duties.

No recent photograph or clear audio recording of Mojtaba has so far been released to independently support Mahrouzadeh’s claim.
