A leaked audio recording has revealed that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the use of lethal force by security forces during anti-government protests in July last year. In the BBC-verified recording, Hasina is heard saying, "Shoot them wherever you find them."

The conversation took place on July 18, during a phone call from Hasina’s official residence with an unidentified senior official. The audio was leaked in March. Bangladesh’s CID has confirmed that the voice matches that of Sheikh Hasina.

UK-based forensic group Earshot reported the audio was not edited and appeared authentic. They analyzed tone, pitch, and background noise, finding no signs of manipulation.

Human rights lawyer Toby Cadman stated the recording is crucial in proving Hasina’s role. He is advising the International Crimes Tribunal, where cases are ongoing against Hasina and others.

An Awami League spokesperson said the authenticity of the tape could not be confirmed and claimed nothing illegal was said. Hasina is among 203 accused, with 73 already arrested.
