Lionel Messi enjoyed another brilliant night for Inter Miami as he scored twice to lead his team to a 2-1 victory over New England Revolution in Foxborough on Wednesday. With this win, Miami secured back-to-back victories in the MLS and climbed to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Messi scored the first goal in the 27th minute after New England’s defense failed to clear the ball, allowing him to strike from inside the box. He doubled the lead in the 38th minute with a perfect finish after receiving a pinpoint pass from Sergio Busquets. Although Carles Gil pulled one back for New England late in the match, they couldn’t find the equalizer as Miami's defense held strong.
This brings Messi's tally to 14 goals in the MLS this season and 20 in all competitions. He has scored four goals and made one assist in his last two matches. He also became the first player in MLS history to score multiple goals in four consecutive matches.
