Trump to Impose 30% Tariff on EU and Mexican Goods from August

US President Donald Trump has announced a 30% tariff on goods imported from the European Union and Mexico. The decision will take effect from August 1. He warned that if retaliatory tariffs are imposed, the US will respond with even higher duties.
In a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Trump stated that after lengthy discussions, the US is taking this step to address trade deficits caused by EU tariff policies and trade barriers.
The EU had been seeking an agreement with the US before August. However, before any deal could be reached, Trump announced that tariffs would also be imposed on goods from Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Brazil. These tariffs will also take effect from August 1.
