Sheikh Hasina to be arrested if returned to Bangladesh, no bail possible, says ICT chief prosecutor

DHAKA, July 12 (Mirror News) — Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam said on Sunday that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would be arrested immediately if she is returned to the country from India and would not be eligible for bail.

Speaking to reporters in Dhaka, Aminul Islam said diplomatic efforts are underway to secure Hasina's return.

"If Sheikh Hasina is brought back to Bangladesh, she will be arrested in accordance with the law. There will be no scope for bail," he said.

The chief prosecutor also said the statutory deadline for filing an appeal has expired, leaving no legal provision for an appeal under the existing law. However, he added that any final decision on the matter rests with the Supreme Court.

Aminul Islam further said investigations are continuing into a number of allegations involving the Awami League, including the 1975 killing of Siraj Sikder.

Sheikh Hasina, who has been staying in India since leaving office, faces multiple legal cases in Bangladesh. The allegations against her remain subject to judicial proceedings, and any findings of criminal liability will be determined by the courts.
