PM Directs Maximum Vigilance to Protect Lives and Property Amid Flooding

Dhaka, July 12 (Mirror News) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed all government agencies and field-level administrations to remain on maximum alert and work in close coordination to protect lives and property, ensure the swift delivery of relief and medical assistance, and effectively respond to the ongoing flooding caused by continuous heavy rainfall.

The directives were issued during a virtual meeting held on Sunday (July 12) from the Prime Minister's Office with divisional commissioners, deputy inspectors general (DIGs) of police, deputy commissioners (DCs), superintendents of police (SPs), civil surgeons and other field administration officials from all eight divisions.

The Prime Minister said protecting people's lives and property remains the government's highest priority during the disaster. He instructed officials to ensure the prompt distribution of relief materials, safe drinking water, dry food, baby food, essential medicines and healthcare services to affected communities. He also stressed the importance of maintaining safe shelter centres with adequate sanitation, electricity and communication facilities.

Calling for special attention to women, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities and pregnant women, Tarique Rahman directed authorities to ensure their health and safety. He also instructed law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert to prevent theft, robbery, hoarding, relief misappropriation and other crimes that could arise during the disaster.

During the meeting, officials reported that waterlogging in Chattogram has started to recede gradually. However, the situation is worsening in Sylhet due to damage to the embankment of the Manu River, while fresh waterlogging is feared in the Rangpur division.

In response, the Prime Minister instructed all relevant authorities to remain fully prepared for any emerging risks, keep the necessary manpower and equipment ready, and continue working in coordination to support affected communities.
