Assets worth approximately Tk 760 billion (76,000 crore) belonging to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 10 business groups have been seized, according to BFIU Chief Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday (July 15), he said that assets worth Tk 570 billion (57,000 crore) within Bangladesh and Tk 190 billion (19,000 crore) abroad have been frozen or seized. Efforts are ongoing to recover assets that were allegedly transferred or taken out of the country. He expressed hope that there would be positive developments on this matter by the end of the year.

The BFIU chief also said that the government is pursuing various initiatives, including agreements with international legal assistance organizations, to facilitate the recovery of assets held overseas.

He added that a joint investigation team has begun examining allegations of illicit asset accumulation, tax evasion, and money laundering involving Sheikh Hasina's family and 10 business groups, including S. Alam Group, Nabil Group, and Beximco Group.
