Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the democracy achieved through the July–August 2024 mass uprising must be safeguarded through national unity, urging all citizens to resist any attempt to revive fascism.
Speaking at a discussion titled "The Turning Point of the Mass Uprising" at the TSC auditorium of the University of Dhaka on Wednesday, organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the minister said that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League would face trial through a lawful judicial process.

He said amendments to the International Crimes Tribunal Act and the Anti-Terrorism Act have made it possible to prosecute not only Sheikh Hasina as an individual but also the Awami League as a political organization.
The Home Minister also stressed the importance of preserving national unity to strengthen democracy and implement democratic state reforms. He called on the younger generation and all citizens to work together to build a safe, democratic, and authoritarianism-free Bangladesh.
