Some Groups Trying to Exploit HSC Students' Protests, Says Home Adviser

Home Adviser Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that certain groups are attempting to exploit the ongoing protests by Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees to embarrass the government.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday, he said some groups were using various issues to create instability while concealing their identities. He also claimed that many of those participating in the demonstrations were neither students nor HSC examinees.

The Home Adviser said the Ministry of Education had already clarified its position regarding the students' demands. Examinees who were unable to sit for the examinations due to severe weather conditions would be given another opportunity to take the exams, he said.

He added that the ministry would investigate the errors found in two Physics examination questions and take action against those responsible. The marks allocated to the two incorrect questions would be awarded to the examinees, he said.

Referring to criticism over a recent remark by the Education Adviser, Salahuddin Ahmed said the adviser had expressed regret in Parliament if his comments had caused anyone distress. According to the government, the concerns raised by the students have already been addressed.

Responding to a question about attempts to embarrass the government, the Home Adviser said the authorities were not giving the matter undue importance. He noted that such activities had been observed only in a few districts and at a limited number of locations in Dhaka, involving a relatively small number of people.
