Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed authorities to quickly remove all unfit, expired, and environmentally polluting vehicles, including buses and trucks, from the capital.
The directive was issued on Saturday (July 18) during a meeting on environmental pollution held at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister also instructed the relevant authorities to introduce automatic traffic light systems at at least 50 more locations across Dhaka as quickly as possible.
To restore discipline on the city's roads, he called on law enforcement agencies to take stricter measures against the excessive use of vehicle horns. The meeting also discussed the possibility of using artificial intelligence (AI) technology—similar to AI-powered traffic cameras—to help monitor and control unnecessary horn use.
Participants at the meeting agreed to take swift and effective measures to curb both air and noise pollution. The Prime Minister also emphasized promoting environment-friendly alternative technologies for brick production.
