Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has formed a committee comprising the Finance Adviser and the Commerce Minister to address the long-standing challenges facing Bangladesh's textile sector.

The information was shared on Wednesday (July 22) by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) President Showkat Aziz Russell after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat.

Russell said the sector's problems have accumulated over many years and may take around one and a half years to resolve. He added that discussions with the Prime Minister also focused on gas, electricity, and financial challenges. He expressed hope that the textile sector would recover if the government remains committed to addressing these issues.

The BTMA president also said that the government's initiative to reopen closed factories could create employment for nearly 1.5 million people. However, he stressed the need for effective measures to curb market dumping to ensure the success of the initiative.
