Bangladesh Foreign Minister Meets Maldivian President Muizzu

Male, July 26: Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman met Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to the Maldives as a special guest for the country's 61st Independence Day celebrations.

Upon his arrival in Malé, Dr. Rahman was received at the airport by Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel. He later paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu at the President's Office, where he conveyed warm greetings from Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and thanked the Maldivian leader for attending the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh's newly elected government in February.

The foreign minister also expressed gratitude to President Muizzu for supporting Bangladesh's candidacy for the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, Dr. Rahman highlighted the BNP-led government's "Bangladesh First" policy, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with all countries based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the longstanding ties between Bangladesh and the Maldives and emphasized the need to deepen cooperation through practical initiatives. They also reviewed recent regional and international developments and stressed the importance of revitalizing SAARC.

Dr. Rahman welcomed the significant employment opportunities available for Bangladeshi workers and professionals in the Maldives. President Muizzu praised their valuable contribution to the Maldivian economy.

The meeting was attended by Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Home Minister Ali Ihusan, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam.

Later, President Muizzu hosted a high tea reception in honor of the visiting foreign minister, attended by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, cabinet members, and senior government officials.

In the evening, Dr. Rahman attended a diplomatic reception hosted by his Maldivian counterpart, where he exchanged views with ambassadors and representatives of international organizations stationed in the Maldives.
