PM Urges Merit-Based Military Promotions Above Political Considerations

Dhaka, July 26: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday urged the Bangladesh Army to ensure that promotions are made above political ideology and personal preferences, stressing professionalism and integrity in the selection process.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Army Headquarters Selection Board-2026 at Army Headquarters, the prime minister called on board members to place greater emphasis on officers' professional competence, leadership qualities, discipline, and integrity while considering promotions.

He said the Bangladesh Army has continued to play a vital role not only in safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty but also in supporting the civil administration in maintaining internal peace, stability, and disaster response.

The prime minister also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Army Chief and all members of the Bangladesh Army for their dedication and sacrifices in serving the nation.
