The ball used for Diego Maradona’s iconic ‘Hand of God’ and ‘Goal of the Century’ goals is set to go under the hammer, with its price expected to reach $10 million, or around Tk 1,250 crore.
The ball was used in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England, where Maradona scored both historic goals. Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser, who officiated the match, kept the ball for decades.
US auction house Heritage Auctions will begin the auction on August 21 and announce the winning bidder on August 23. The starting price has been set at $2.5 million.
Maradona memorabilia has previously fetched record prices. His shirt from the same match sold for $9.3 million in 2022. The ‘Hand of God’ ball could now surpass that figure.
