US President Donald Trump has rejected any extension of the interim memorandum of understanding with Iran, despite the agreement’s expiration. Instead, Trump has called on Tehran to surrender, saying Iran should raise a white flag. He also claimed that the United States has full control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday (August 17), Trump said he saw little prospect of reaching a necessary agreement with Iran. As a result, Washington has no plans to extend the 60-day interim arrangement, which was intended to end the US-Iran conflict and create a path toward a long-term agreement.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump delivered a tougher message to Tehran, directly calling for Iran’s surrender. He also said an indirect channel of communication with Iran remains open.

Iran, however, says the agreement has effectively become meaningless following US attacks and alleged violations of its terms. Tehran has accused Washington of failing to fulfill its commitments.

Meanwhile, Iran is discussing alternative arrangements with Oman to restore normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has warned that Oman could face US military action if it obstructs efforts to reopen the strategic waterway.

The escalating tensions among the United States, Iran and Oman have further increased uncertainty across the Middle East. Reduced shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has also raised fresh concerns about global energy supplies and oil markets.
