The death toll from devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal has risen to at least 270, with rescue teams continuing their search for missing people along the Nepal-China border. The disaster struck several areas along the Nepal-China border on Wednesday (August 26), after a massive glacier collapse triggered a sudden surge of water, mud and debris. The powerful flow swept through settlements, roads and infrastructure, causing widespread destruction.
Rescue operations are still underway in the worst-affected areas. Emergency teams are searching through damaged buildings and debris while efforts continue to locate those still missing.
The disaster has also caused major casualties in Tibet. More than 500 people are reportedly missing there, including hundreds of foreign nationals. Authorities in both Nepal and China have mobilized security forces and rescue teams to assist affected communities. Helicopters are also being used to reach isolated areas and support the ongoing rescue operations.
The scale of the disaster continues to grow as authorities assess the damage and search for survivors across the mountainous border region.
