Facing mounting international pressure and an escalating food crisis in Gaza, Israel says it has recently begun airdropping humanitarian aid into the region.
On Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that seven aid packages containing flour, sugar, and canned food were dropped from aircraft. Earlier, Israel had also announced plans to open a humanitarian corridor to allow UN convoys into Gaza amid warnings of famine.
Meanwhile, international organizations report that Gaza is on the brink of famine, with many families struggling to survive without access to food. Israel has denied accusations of orchestrating a deliberate famine in Gaza, calling the claims completely false.
According to the IDF, the aid operation was carried out in coordination with international organizations and led by its military unit COGAT. They also released video footage of the airdrops, though independent verification has not been possible.
Palestinian authorities have not yet commented on the development.
