The Indian government has said it is reviewing Bangladesh's request for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in accordance with applicable laws and established procedures.
The information was disclosed in a government action-taken report submitted to India's Parliament following recommendations made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, chaired by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, on Thursday (July 30).
The government also stated that although Sheikh Hasina is currently staying in India, she has not been allowed to engage in any political activities while in the country.

The parliamentary committee further noted that Hasina's stay in India is consistent with the country's civilizational values and humanitarian traditions. It said her presence forms part of India's long-standing policy of providing shelter to individuals facing severe crises or threats to their lives.
The committee recommended that the government continue to uphold its humanitarian and principled approach while handling such situations with due sensitivity and in line with India's international obligations.
