Admiral Stephen Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on Tuesday for a three-day official visit, leading a 22-member American naval delegation.
The visit comes amid growing diplomatic engagement between Dhaka and Washington. Analysts view Koehler’s trip, shortly after the visit of US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor, as a sign of deepening defence cooperation between the two countries.
During his stay, the US naval chief is expected to hold a series of meetings with Bangladesh’s military and civilian policymakers. Regional security, maritime cooperation, and stronger military-to-military coordination are likely to feature prominently in the discussions.
Throughout his naval career, Koehler has served as Executive Officer of USS Carl Vinson and Commanding Officer of USS Bataan and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. He has also taken part in major operations including Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Inherent Resolve.
He later held senior leadership positions at the US Indo-Pacific Command and the US Third Fleet before assuming command of the US Pacific Fleet on April 4, 2024.
