Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have signed a trilateral defence agreement, according to a joint statement issued on Friday (August 7). The agreement was signed in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Reuters reported the development.
Ahead of the signing ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir arrived in Saudi Arabia and held meetings with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
According to reports from several media outlets, the agreement was reached after nearly a year of negotiations among the three countries.
Under the terms of the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three nations.
The agreement is expected to further strengthen defence cooperation and strategic ties among Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan.
