US President Donald Trump has welcomed the newly signed defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan, describing it as a significant step toward greater regional security cooperation.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the agreement shows that countries in the Middle East are gradually coming together. He also said the pact would help the three nations strengthen their ability to defend themselves more effectively.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement on August 7. Under the agreement, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all three, paving the way for a joint response.
The agreement is being viewed as a major development in regional security cooperation. It brings together Saudi Arabia and Pakistan with NATO member Turkey under a new framework for defence coordination.
The pact also includes plans for closer military cooperation, joint exercises and greater coordination in defence industries and advanced military technologies. Turkey has indicated that other countries, including Egypt, could potentially join the framework in the future.
